Can't seem to print from Photoshop Elements? You're not alone. People have reported similar problems from Photoshop Elements 7, 8, 9 and 10 from Windows Vista and Windows 7. It either prints a blank page, causes the printer to go into an error state or doesn't do anything at all.
The problem isn't just with HP printers either. The cause appears to be that the names of the printers are too long. As a result, the short form of the names of the printers (printer and fax) are identical. The solution is to rename one the printer or the fax to something completely different. For example, changing "HP Officejet 8500 A909a Series Fax" to simply "Fax" should do the trick.
Hopefully Adobe will fix this little bug and allow for longer printer names in future releases.

Why oh why does Adobe seem to make everything more difficult? We just spent over an hour trying to troubleshoot this – what a waste of time.
We had to find a workaround. Saved the Photoshop elements document as a JPEG and printed – worked just fine.
Also, we happen to have 2 HP ENVY 7640 printers that I can print to … same error on each printer. “Printer cartridge …” AND the little it printed, it started printing way to the right of where it should have started – almost as though it thought it was printing on larger paper than 8.5 x 11.

You have an ample amount of knowledge and that describes it very clearly. I thank you for giving me this type of knowledge. It helped me a lot.
